Andhika Mustika Dharma, Mulyana Mulyana

Abstract

Buddha gave advice to gharavasa, to accumulate wealth as the basis for a household. Business or trade is one way to become prosperous. Apart from business ethics in general, Buddhist teachings can also be used as guidelines for gharavasa in doing business or trade. This research aims to determine business practices in Buddhist teachings in the Anguttara Nikaya.

Researchers used library research methods, using a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis research type. The object of this research is the Buddhist scripture Tripitaka Anguttara Nikaya, articles and other sources about business practices. Researchers find out about business practices in the Anguttara Nikaya in three stages, namely reduction, classification and presentation. The data is processed to obtain its essence, then arranged and grouped and ends with conclusions.

This research found that business according to the Anguttara Nikaya, is started by making funds (donating), at the right time, to the right people, and done beyond the expectations of the recipient of the funds. In the past, giving funds and services has been the main key to gaining wealth and business success. It is recommended that businesses be run by men, with women's duties as financial managers in the family. Business people must use sufficient resources and protect the environment and avoid the five trades that are not recommended, because they will cause many creatures to suffer and lose their lives. A person needs to settle in a suitable place, rely on good people, have the right determination, and have services performed in the past to be successful and prosperous in business. All forms of business that are detrimental and bring suffering to other creatures, even though they can provide wealth, are recommended to be avoided.
